First Ever COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel Test Engine Building Skills of Power Tour Participants
New, innovative competition challenges engine builders to construct and fire a Small Block Chevrolet engine in shortest amount of time COMP Cams® newest competitive event, the Engine Builder Duel, stole the show at the recently completed seven-day 2007 Hot Rod Power Tour. Presented at stops in Springfield, IL, Evansville, IN, Memphis, TN and Little Rock AR., this exciting competition pitted pairs of two-man engine building teams, selected from the audience, head-to-head to construct and run a Small Block Chevy engine in the shortest amount of time. Winners at each venue were awarded a special Engine Builder Duel trophy and $100 in COMP Performance Group™ product certificates. Runners-up received $50 certificates. Judging by the tremendous crowd approval shown during each competition, it is certain that more COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duels will be held in the near future. Using parts from COMP Performance Group™ companies including COMP Cams®, RHS™, TCI® and FAST™, the overall fastest time of the first Engine Builder Challenge presented by Snap-on Tools was the team of Tim Weber, of Sanford, FL and Chris Clinton of Ft. Myers, FL. Daring to take on “The Duel” during the Little Rock, AR tour stop, the Weber/Clinton team constructed and fired their engine in 30 minutes, eight seconds. The team with the second fastest overall time was Fred Burnette and Jim Purcell who entered the Engine Builder Duel at the Memphis, TN Power Tour stop, and completed the build in a time of 30 minutes and 44 seconds. The twin 350cid Small Block Chevrolet engines were supplied by GM Performance and featured the extremely popular COMP Cams® #12-601-8 Mutha Thumpr™ camshaft and complementary COMP Cams® valve train products.
