COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel Will Return To St. Paul For The 2014 Car Craft Summer Nationals

The COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel will appear in St. Paul, MN, from July 18-20 as part of this year’s vast Car Craft Summer Nationals event.

The COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel, presented by Snap-On Tools, has become a popular and anticipated part of automotive events across the country. The competition will return to the Land of 10,000 Lakes for the Car Craft Summer Nationals at St. Paul’s Minnesota State Fairgrounds in 2014. Four duels are scheduled during the huge three-day event in mid-July. The first match will take place on Friday, July 18th at 3:00 p.m. The following day duels are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., and the final contest is set for 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.

The Engine Builder Duel pits a pair of two-person teams head-to-head to determine which one can assemble and crank a Small Block Chevy engine in the shortest amount of time. The engine must run for one minute before a team is declared the winner. Armed with nothing but their knowledge, contestants are provided with the appropriate parts and tools to complete the build, and they may not ask for help from anyone in the audience. Both members of the winning team will receive a $250 COMP Cams® gift certificate, while runners up each get a $125 COMP® voucher. All of the 2014 participants will be trying to eclipse the competition’s record time of 22:32, which was set at this very event in 2013.

COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel Will Be A Part Of 2014 Car Craft Street Machine Nationals

From June 27-29 the COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel will visit Du Quoin, IL, as a highlight of the Car Craft Street Machine Nationals at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds.

The COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel, presented by Snap-On Tools, has become a popular and anticipated part of automotive events across the country. Attendees at the Car Craft Street Machine Nationals will be treated to the competition this year, with four duels taking place during the three-day event. COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel Comes Back To Hot Rod Power Tour In 2014

With competitions scheduled for Charlotte, NC, and Knoxville, TN, the popular Engine Builder Duel will make its annual Hot Rod Power Tour appearance this year.

The COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel, presented by Snap-On Tools, has become a popular and anticipated part of automotive events across the country. The competition will return in 2014, with the duel calendar kicking off during the seven-day road trip that makes up the Hot Rod Power Tour. The first duel will take place at zMAX Dragway at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday, June 7th, while the second event is scheduled for Saturday, June 8th at Chillhowee Park in Knoxville, TN. Each competition will take place at 3:00 p.m.

COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel Debuts At Goodguys Lone Star Nationals

The Engine Builder Duel pits a pair of two-person teams against each other with the task of completely assembling and running a Small Block Chevy engine in the shortest amount of time. The contest awards each member of the winning team a $250 COMP Cams® gift certificate, with $125 certificates going to the runners-up. The Fort Worth weekend’s first duel on Friday afternoon saw the father-son team of Dennis and Robert Edwards from Team FAST™ turn in a time of 44:25 to gain a close victory over Jeffrey Tallent and Bae Cmet of Team COMP®. On Saturday, Team FAST™ scored another win, as Tommy Moffett and Curt Hutchens finished with an impressively fast time of 30:29. Sunday morning saw a major victory for Team COMP® as Ken Yott and Frank Eberle turned in a lightning-fast time of 24:43, edging out the formidable effort of 25:54 achieved by James Fox and Dustin Glasscock of Team FAST™. The Fort Worth duels brought an end to an impressive year of competition, which featured a new all-time record set for the contest. A popular spectator sport, the Engine Builder Duel pits a pair of two-person teams against each other with the goal of completely assembling and running a Small Block Chevy engine in the shortest amount of time. The weekend’s first duel on Friday afternoon saw Ian Rabanus and Bob Whebbe from Team FASTTM turn in a time of 34:46 to gain victory over Nick Wernett and Tom Whebbe of Team COMP®. On Saturday, Team COMP® scored a close win, as the duo of Mike Povolny and Mike Stanton finished with an impressive time of 32:11 over brothers Bob and Tom Whebbe.  Saturday afternoon saw another victory for Team FASTTM, as Brock Viersba and Jim Konija finished with a time of 31:40, edging out the team of brothers Mark and Dave Storlien by just a few minutes. COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel Features Large Turnout And Close Races At 16th Annual GoodGuys PPG Nationals

The first-ever COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel at the GoodGuys PPG Nationals proved to be a successful one, with Team COMP® and Team FAST™ each netting first place victories in the four competitions held over the course of three days. A popular spectator sport, the Engine Builder Duel pits a pair of two-person teams against each other with the goal of completely assembling and running a Small Block Chevy engine in the shortest amount of time. Each contest awards each member of the winning team a $250 COMP Cams® gift certificate, with $125 certificates going to the runners-up. Each of the competition’s four duels in Columbus proved to be close races, with the final duel being tight enough that both teams were given first place recognition. The weekend’s first duel on Friday afternoon saw Ryan Manson and Kev Elliott from Team COMP® turn in a time of 37:40 to gain victory over Jake Amatisto and Steven Rupp of Team FAST™. On Saturday, Team COMP® scored another win, as the father-son duo of Jody and Dee Comer finished with a lightning-fast time of 30:06.  Saturday afternoon saw yet another victory for Team COMP®, as Steve Marsa and Curtis Finch finished with a time of 36:56, narrowly edging out the 38:58 time posted by the father-son team of Dave and Devin Ruhs. The weekend’s final, and narrowest, competition took place on Sunday morning and featured two teams that finished so close to one another that each team was awarded the first place prize. Team FAST™ members Kevin Gass and Kevin Douglas finished their build at 30:54, just ten seconds ahead of the Team COMP® father-son duo of Chris and 12-year-old Carson Ellis. 2013 Engine Builder Duel Schedule Announced

In 2013 the popular COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel will undertake its most ambitious schedule ever, with competitions taking place in seven cities as part of four major automotive events.

Each year the COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel provides an opportunity for the best engine builders in the country to show their expertise at some of the nation’s most prestigious automotive shows and events. Now with added dates, this year’s competitions will be bigger than ever.

The 2013 Engine Builder Duel will kick off as part of Hot Rod Power Tour, with contests slated for Monday, June 3rd through Wednesday, June 5th in Little Rock, Memphis and Birmingham, respectively.

The competition picks up again in July with its first-ever appearance at the PPG Goodguys Nationals in Columbus on Friday, July 12th through Sunday, July 14th.

The Engine Builder Duel then shifts further north the very next week and will make its second straight appearance at the Car Craft Summer Nationals in St. Paul on Friday, July 19th through Sunday, July 21st.
