2013 Engine Builder Duel Schedule Announced

In 2013 the popular COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel will undertake its most ambitious schedule ever, with competitions taking place in seven cities as part of four major automotive events.

Each year the COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel provides an opportunity for the best engine builders in the country to show their expertise at some of the nation’s most prestigious automotive shows and events. Now with added dates, this year’s competitions will be bigger than ever.

The 2013 Engine Builder Duel will kick off as part of Hot Rod Power Tour, with contests slated for Monday, June 3rd through Wednesday, June 5th in Little Rock, Memphis and Birmingham, respectively.

The competition picks up again in July with its first-ever appearance at the PPG Goodguys Nationals in Columbus on Friday, July 12th through Sunday, July 14th.

The Engine Builder Duel then shifts further north the very next week and will make its second straight appearance at the Car Craft Summer Nationals in St. Paul on Friday, July 19th through Sunday, July 21st.

The year’s competitions will wrap up in Fort Worth when the Engine Builder Duel makes another first-time appearance, this one at the Goodguys Lone Star Nationals on Friday, October 4th through Sunday, October 6th.

The COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel, presented by Snap-On Tools, pits two, two-man teams against each other to see which one can completely assemble and crank a Small Block Chevy engine in the shortest amount of time. Equipped with nothing but their knowledge, contestants are given the appropriate parts and tools to complete the build, but may not ask questions of anyone in the crowd. First place winners of each contest will each be rewarded with a $250 COMP Cams® gift certificate, while runner-up team members will each receive a $125 certificate.

COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel Returns To Large Crowds At Street Rod Nationals

Memphis, TN – The latest installment of the COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel featured six very quick builds over the course of four days at the 43rd Annual NSRA Street Rod Nationals in Louisville, KY.

The fifth summer of the Engine Builder Duel Presented by Snap-On Tools rolled on August 2nd – 5th in Louisville, KY, where a large group of attendees were treated to builds each day during the NSRA Street Rod Nationals. Male and female participants young and old from around the country competed as part of a two-person team in the Duel, which crowns its winner based on which team can assemble and run a Small Block Chevy in the shortest amount of time.

The members of the winning team each receive $250 COMP Cams® product certificates, with the runners-up each receiving a $125 voucher.

The festivities kicked off on Thursday, August 2nd, with the father-son team of Harry and Harrison Newman on Team COMP® posting a time of 40:04 to just best Team RHS® featuring George Thompson and Mike Skelton. The following day saw Butch Lewis and David Joyce on Team RHS® take on the father-son tandem of John and Kyle Boris for Team COMP®.

The Boris family claimed the top prize with a time of 44:30. That afternoon, Ronald Rocheleau and Scott Shaffer turned in a time of 36:46 to take the win over Raymond and Iris Aldrige of Team COMP®.

The Aldridges redeemed themselves on Saturday morning however. Now competing for Team RHS®, they turned in a blistering time of 32:29 – the fastest build of the event – to claim victory over Cory Potts and Debbie Kouray on Team COMP®.

Saturday afternoon featured yet another father-son team, composed of Rob and David Stewart, who finished the build in 44:27 to give the win to Team RHS® over Justin Kuhns and Shawna McVay of Team COMP®.

The final build of the weekend took place on Sunday morning, when the father-son duo of Chris and Carson Ellis of Team RHS® turned in a time of 34:24 to defeat Steve Hornback and Tyler Redden of Team COMP®. The Louisville edition of the Engine Builder Duel wraps up the season for 2012; but be sure to watch for the events that the popular competition will be featured at next year.

COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel To Return To The NSRA Street Rod Nationals

2012 NSRA Street Rod Nationals participants will get a chance to show off their engine building skills in the COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel on August 2nd–5th.

The COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel is one of the most popular events at major car shows around the country. In 2012, COMP® will once again bring the competition to the 43rd Annual NSRA Street Rod Nationals, taking place at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, KY, on August 2nd–5th.

The event annually features over 11,000 street rods and more than 30,000 visitors. The Engine Builder Duel, presented by Snap-On Tools, pits two, two-man teams against each other to see which one can completely assemble and crank a Small Block Chevy engine in the shortest amount of time.

Equipped with nothing but their knowledge, contestants are given the appropriate parts and tools to complete the build, but may not ask questions of anyone in the crowd. First place winners will each be rewarded with a $250 COMP Cams® gift certificate, while runner-up team members will each receive a $125 gift certificate.

The Engine Builder Duel will take place at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 2nd, Friday August 3rd and Saturday, August 4th.

2012 Car Craft Summer Nationals participants will get a chance to show off their engine building skills in the COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel on July 20th – 22nd.

The COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel is one of the most popular events at major car shows around the country. In 2012, COMP® will bring the competition to the Car Craft Summer Nationals, taking place at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul, MN, on July 20th – 22nd, and featuring over 4,000 cars.

The contest, presented by Snap-On Tools, pits two, two-man teams against each other to see which one can completely assemble and crank a Small Block Chevy engine in the shortest amount of time. Equipped with nothing but their knowledge, contestants are given the appropriate parts and tools to complete the build, but may not ask questions of anyone in the crowd.

First place winners will each be rewarded with a $250 COMP Cams® gift certificate, while runner-up team members will each receive a $125 gift certificate.

COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel Draws Big Crowd At 2011 NSRA Street Rod Nationals

Memphis, TN − The popular COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel presented by Snap-On Tools drew big crowds at every performance during the 2011 NSRA Street Rod Nationals.

COMP Cams® brought the Engine Builder Duel presented by Snap-On Tools to the NSRA Street Rod Nationals on Thursday, August 4th through Sunday, August 7th at the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville, KY. It was an exciting four days of duels that saw the youngest ever competitor at just 12 years old. During the first duel, held Thursday afternoon, Ronnie and Casey Geeslin of Team COMP® turned in a super fast time of 34:25 and beat out Kagan Witt and Allison Rice of Team RHS®. Friday morning Team RHS® picked up its first win when Peter and Tony Satherny edged out Steve and Logan Tatalousch of Team COMP®. Later that afternoon, a large crowd saw Kyle and John Boris defeat Cory Potts and Debby Douray. One of the most exciting duels took place Saturday morning when Gary and Brett Laird beat out Harry and Harrison Newman by just 4:34. In the afternoon competition, Jeff Altemus and Randy Anderson of Team COMP® beat Greg and Tyler Redden of Team RHS® and earned the second spot in the championship round. Ronnie and Casey Geeslin came back as Team COMP® for Sunday’s Grand Champion match and set the fastest time of the Street Rod Nationals. Completing their build in just 27:27, they beat out Jeff Altemus and Randy Anderson who switched to Team RHS® for the final competition. COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel Is Crowd Favorite

The COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel presented by Snap-on Tools drew large crowds of onlookers during the 2010 Hot Rod Power Tour

Due to popular demand, COMP Cams® held the Engine Builder Duel at three stops during the Hot Rod Power Tour. The contest, presented by Snap-on Tools, pitted two, two-man teams against each other to see who could assemble and run a Small Block Chevy engine the fastest. After every duel, the winners each walked away with a $250 COMP Cams® gift certificate. Runner-up team members each received a $100 gift certificate.

Kevin Gass and Scotty Schehan of Team RHS® won the first Engine Duel of 2010 in Bowling Green, KY. They completely assembled their engine in 30 minutes and 15 seconds. Team COMP® members Michael Frommholz and Michael Forchiane finished exactly one minute later at 31:15.

The following day, in Chattanooga, TN, Team COMP® won. Teammates Jake Kretzschmar and Arlando Johnson beat out Brad Pierson and Dave Freeman to win with a time of 32:19. This may have been the most exciting duel, as spectators watched the COMP® Team’s carburetor catch on fire and the RHS® Team’s engine drop several oil pan bolts as soon as it fired up.

Tim Weber and Ken Ferris set a new Engine Builder Duel record in Birmingham, AL, by completely assembling their engine in just 26:08. That’s the fastest time by any team that has ever competed in the COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel. Birmingham Power Tour visitors also saw the first ever husband and wife team compete in the duel. Danny and Lisa Morson, of Team RHS®, came in a close second and dedicated their performance to their 4-month-old twins.

Both exciting and informative, the COMP Cams® Engine Builder Duel has been a crowd favorite at past events. The contest was once again a big hit with spectators and participants alike during the 2010 Hot Rod Power Tour.

Armed with nothing but their own knowledge, contestants are pre-chosen, un-sponsored gearheads who will be given the appropriate parts and tools to complete the build but may not ask questions of anyone in the crowd or a COMP® employee. First place winners will each be rewarded with a $250 COMP Cams® gift certificate while runner-up team members will receive a $125 gift certificate each.
